We liked gadget. Here are some cooking results.

    * Steamed broccoli (fine, cooked a bit faster than a traditional steamer)
    * Yams (fantastic, and fit > 5, easy to clean the nonstick pot as yams ooze a sticky fluid)
    * Roasted mini-peppers (peppers, olive oil, set to a baking temp -- be sure to stir more aggressively than in an oven, also great).

This device will nicely into our food prep rituals.

Best for: Small kitchens, RV, maybe the occasional cook less inclined to embrace a full oven.

    Other Pros:
    * Timer: Obvious, but very useful; slow cookers often lack this feature.*
" Keep Warm:" Only of our several slow cookers had this feature.
    * Lightweight: the pot itself is light, as is the steamer basket.

App wasn’t updated yet with device specific recipes if any were intended.

Size: It is a little bigger than some of our slow cookers. Hence the photo: shows it stowed on a shelf next to a medium sized seltzer bottle.

Replaces: slow cooker, rice cooker and a steamer. We had two of three (counting the steamer as a basket).

What it isn’t? A pressure cooker (my parents had one in the 60's, I guess they're resurgent), which already own separately. Less use for one of those as vegetarians, so we'd use that feature rarely.

Con: You know, of course, that devices like this are all going to have associated apps and upgradeable firmware one day, and this device kinda screams out for that eventuality.

Overall: versatile and thoughtfully laid out. Looking forward to updated recipes on the app.

For some people, this might be the only cooking appliance he or she needs. This De'Longhi CKM1641D Livenza All-in-One Programmable Multi Cooker, Stainless Steel should be an attractive asset any kitchen, especially one that already has other stainless steel appliances. I found the front controls intuitive and easy to read and control without needing my reading glasses. It will slow-cook on three settings, bake like an oven, brown and saute', steam vegetables in its included basket and cooks rice automatically. Once the cooking cycle is complete it automatically switches to a warming cycle unless I intervene, ensuring that the food is not overcooked but remains ready to serve.

A sensor (see photo) in the center of the bottom prevents the cooker from starting until the non-stick coated aluminum pot has been properly lowered in place. The sensor remains in contact with the pot to regulate its temperature, so that the pot temperature is maintained as I have selected on the front panel. Temperature and time are displayed in a large, lighted digital display.

The six-quart pot is large enough to accommodate a roasting chicken which cooks more moist than than in a range oven because of it's enclosed cooking environment. This cooker comes with both a full-color illustrated "get started" manual that includes a tasty recipe for beef bourguignon and a more detailed 20-page per language English/French/Spanish manual for cooks who appreciate detailed instructions. DeLonghi also offers a smartphone app with additional recipes. Power requirement is 120 VAC 60Hz 1,350 watts, which any modern North American kitchen should be able to provide. After several weeks of ownership, I am really enjoying this classy cooker's capabilities.

I'm usually a little leery of a product that claims to do several different things. Usually, it becomes a compromise that doesn't do any one thing that well. This cooker proved to be an exception.

First impressions were very good. This is a solidly built unit with great eye appeal and easy to use controls. It was well packaged and features a heavy glass lid. Actually, the whole thing is a bit on the heavy side, but that just adds to the solid feel. It is an ideal size, having enough room to cook a large roast but still small enough to fit in the cabinet.

Cooking with it is simple. The removable liner is some type of non-stick surface (not Teflon) and it really works well. We tried using the bake function first. That seemed like the hardest task for a cooker like this. We were concerned that cooking at a higher heat would burn the bottom of the food. It did seem to sizzle a bit, but it really didn't burn (a little crispy) and it didn't stick to the surface. It is still not quite like an oven, but it cooks faster than an oven.

The little gem really shines as a slow cooker or steamer. There is a steel rack that elevates the food and it works perfectly. We have not tried cooking rice because we rarely eat rice.

This is one of those rare products that really looks and performs as well as the product page says. This will be our "go to" cooking surface for many meals. Cooks fast and clean up is easy with removable liner.

As a single guy, I thought this would be the answer to my "I don't know how to cook" problem. This one appliance can bake like an oven, saute, steam and slow-cook, and the pot is dishwasher-safe. Alas, the whole thing is just a little too intimidating for me because I have to use recipes to prepare meals in advance, then slow-cook or bake them, and I have no experience at doing any of that. So I summoned my girlfriend to show me how it all works. She's a fantastic cook.

We both made the mistake of not following the first words in all capital letters in the manual: READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS. She prepared a lovely Teriyaki Chicken recipe, put it in the pot and turned on the timer setting. The concoction smelled delicious within 20 minutes. But it was still in the pre-heat mode and needed much more time to cook. Yes, you see the problem already: DO NOT put food into the cooker before the pre-heat mode is finished.

We burned the honey teriyaki sauce before the chicken had a chance to cook. See photos of a nearly ruined meal. We still ate it, and I thought it tasted great, but she wasn't thrilled.

So my recommendation is this: for those of you who know how to use a multi-cooker and love to spend time mixing together recipe ingredients and slicing and dicing and all that, this is a great appliance. For those of you who always read all instructions before using a new appliance, this is a great appliance. I hope to join your ranks soon, because this is a versatile, high-quality cooker. I just have to wrap my head around the idea of preparing meals and cooking them.

Tonight, I think I'll order up a pizza delivery.

I love the browning /searing setting. Cuts down on cooking messes. It does what it says it will do. If you set it on low, it will cook it very slowly. Check your temperature at each setting. My old slow cooker would quickly cook things even on low setting. This one truly takes the number of hours you set it on

So far I am liking this cooker. A lot of people are making a stink about the holes in the lid. They are a non-issue and actually there for a reason.
It is a little lower temp than other cookers but I've made Pinto beans, carnitas, shredded chicken, drumsticks and more with excellent results.
The cleanup is a breeze and I would recommend.

    Darn it Martha Stewart!

Let me explain, a few weeks ago, while I was flipping through Channel's one Sunday morning, "Martha Bakes" was on PBS, [in my next life Martha and I are BFF's] so I paused when I heard Martha Stewart was beginning a segment on, "slow cooker Pot Roast” and just like that POOF, she had me at pot roast. We cook's know how Martha makes everything look easy, but this segment, really did look simple and easy to achieve a perfect outcome. But, [indulge me please] I, who own everything, ever made to cook with, i.e., two commercial Viking gas ovens, two commercial convection Wolf ovens, two Viking warming draws an eight burner with two griddles commercial gas cook top, two full size Sub-Zero refrigerators, one full size Sub-Zero freezer and two Sub-Zero freezer draws, one steam oven, and my oh so loved Vollrath sous vide, and my [custom built] walk-in 24’ x 18’ x 12’ temperature controlled pantry... YES, OK, I'm bragging a tiny bit, but, I believe if you know something about who is reviewing "a" product, it helps to understand where the reviewer(s) opinion is coming from.

What was I saying...? Oh yes, for the one [add Smiley face with halo emoji ] who has it all… I have never... owned, borrowed or used a slow cooker.

Now I said, "Damn Martha" because of her slow cooker segment... It took me weeks of reading reviews from both home cooks and professional test kitchen's, from the inexpensive, to the gulp, does that thing come with a gold brick inside?

Exhausted, I called my [real-life] BFF Holly, because she loves cooking as well, but sadly Holly was in Ireland with her girls, for two weeks and she couldn't remember the brand. [add three sad, crying emoji faces here]

Finally, I came across this pretty little De Longhi slow cooker, and was quite intrigued with all its functions, [it's not just a slow cooker] the price was great for a small counter top appliance that does so much, so I thought, Lula May lets give it a try… and I'm tickled pink glad I did.

I bought it on a Sunday [Amazon Prime with a Tuesday delivery] on Monday, I was off to my butcher, [Burt] then to my favorite organic farmers market and back home. [Approximately 1:00 pm] I easily programed it... setting it on the "HIGH" temp... for five hours cooking time... later that evening at 6:45 sharp, I presented my husband and four guest's a delicious, and perfectly cooked Pot Roast, surrounded by carrots, mushrooms, potatoes, onions, with a side dish of haricot vert and finishing dinner, with a Grand Mariner Crème brûlée, and fresh organic raspberry's.

My kitchen was clean and I wasn't exhausted from cooking! The little bit to clean-up was a breeze, I just popped the liner and glass lid into the dishwasher along with the dinner dishes, and joined my husband and our guests in the library for an after dinner port.

My husband had surgery yesterday [Friday] so tonite I’ll be making or should I say, "De Longhi-ing" one of his favorites, Baby Quail in cognac and pearl onions with a side dish of buttery mashed red potatoes and a gorgeous wedge salad topped with a blue cheese, bacon dressing. Contact me to find out how tonights dinner turned out, or any ol' question(s) you might have.

Lastly, I would highly recommend this eye catching, easy to use, store anywhere, does everything, De Longhi counter-top slow cooker [that's a mouth full] to ALL cook's of ALL level's of experience.

If you read this far, thank you how kind.

Just a simple housewife... with a rich husband,
    Lula May

I frequently use my pressure cooker but find there are some things that it doesn’t do as well as I’d like (including rice making and preparing poultry), so I thought I’d give this a try.

    THE WALK-AROUND
Despite its large size (19” x 12.5” x 10 tall including handles), this multicooker looks great on the counter. The body is finished in chrome, while the removable insert is a matte black non-stick material. Also included is a removable steaming tray. All controls are at the front of the unit, consisting of two dials (mode selector and time/temperature adjustment), three buttons (keep warm, start/stop, and time/temp selector), and a backlit display which shows time and temperature settings. The power cord is 31” long, giving some discretion in locating the unit in your kitchen.

    THE FUNCTIONS
While this is primarily a slow cooker (there are three modes of slow cooking – low, medium, and high), it can also bake similar to an oven, brown/saute, steam, and act as a rice cooker. I’ve used all the functions except steam, and will outline my experiences in the next few sections:

    FUNCTION – SLOW COOKER
The slow cooker has three temperature settings, each of which has a default/suggested cook time. Low temp is recommended for 8 hours of cooking, medium for 4 hours, and high for 2 hours cook time. I made a roast on low and we were happy with the results. We found the meat to be slightly ‘tougher’ but less ‘soggy’ than preparing the same cut of meat in the Instant Pot, and will use the slow cooker again for this.

    FUNCTION – OVEN BAKE
This function lets you bake food at between 300°F and 400°F. I like the idea that I can run this outdoors in the summer (to prevent the house from heating and/or smelling up). Beyond that, it keeps food tender and prevents it from drying out the way it would otherwise in a conventional oven. Note that if you put food directly on the insert, the bottom of the food will burn… we actually enjoy this with chicken – most of the burnt meat peels off easily, and it leaves a BBQ’d flavour but perfectly tender chicken.

    FUNCTION – BROWN SAUTE
This is more of a “one-pot” feature, useful to caramelize food before switching to another mode. I use this to prepare onion/ginger/rice before adding liquid and switching to RICE mode.

    FUNCTION – STEAM
I haven’t tried this feature, but steaming is the best way to cook vegetables (we prefer raw).

    FUNCTION – RICE
This cooker makes really perfectly cooked rice, much better than my pressure cooker or my old rice cooker, and better than stove-top rice. Saute mode is handy for prep work before switching to rice mode if preparing special/flavoured rices.

    EASE OF USE
This unit is very easy to use, provided you are only using one function – normally, you select mode, adjust temperature and/or time, and press Start/Stop. If you are switching from one mode to another, the unit can be glitchy (presumably, the temperature sensor gets confused if the actual temperature far exceeds the setpoint) – for this reason, I have to wait 5 minutes between finishing preparing my rice on Saute mode, and switching it into Rice mode (even when following a Delonghi recipe). The non-stick surface works well, and the unit is very easy to clean.

    INCLUDED RECIPES
There is a Delonghi phone app that can be downloaded with recipes specifically for this multicooker. Although the idea is promising, there are very few recipes. App layout isn’t the best (you need to switch back and forth between tabs if you measure ingredients while cooking) but instructions are generally good.

    WARRANTY
The included warranty is for 1-year. To make a claim, you need to ship the unit to Delonghi at your cost, and they will ship you a repaired (or refurbished, or new) unit back to you.

    THE GOOD
    + Very attractive design
    + Good build quality
+ Cooks very well, especially in Rice mode
+ Well thought-out design including handles on the non-stick insert

    THE BAD
    - Glitchy UI when changing between cooking modes if insert is hot
    - High price compared to other solutions with similar capabilities (on paper)
    - Limited recipes for this device means you need to experiment to perfect your recipes

    CONCLUSION
We’re really pleased with this multicooker – it makes the best baked chicken and the best rice I’ve ever made at home, and the slow cooker functionality works as expected. I’d recommend this as an addition to your kitchen, provided you have the space to store it.

In cooking modes other than slow and rice there is a pre-heat that comes on. This applies full heat to the cook pot until the temperature set-point is reached so if you have food on the pot bottom it will burn but food on the screen will be cooking before the timer starts counting down..

Controls /functions are straight froward and easy to understand. The dials have a nice indent so you know you're at the selected mode. The large screen informs you the time and temperature and can be read from across the room. A nice stainless steel gives it a quality look, easy clean-up.
Speaking of clean-up the cooking pot has a non-stick finish so everything just wipes off in hot soapy water. The glass lid and the steel steamer screen clean just as easy and all are dish washer safe. We were able to retire a few appliances after getting this cooker such as the veg steam, rice maker and our old, power hungry ceramic slow cooker. More room in the cupboards now.

Capacity for the cooking pot is 6 quarts/5.7 liters which is enough for the average family or couple. The 1.5 pound beef roast we cooked seemed lost in all the space. I slow cooked that roast starting with the bake setting at 300F but watching the (not included) food temperature probe it was evident that this cooker was very efficient as core was done (150 F) in about an hour. I switched to the "Low" slow cooker setting for awhile and then just to the "keep warm" setting for an hour. The roast was perfect but fast. We also cooked a whole chicken that was done in less than an hour! Lastly we made a stew as a slow cooker using the low setting which was too low, then medium and finally high which cooked in a decent amount of time.
***As a note, I was concerned after reading another reviewer having a 26 hour stew due to low temperature so I spent the last day checking the slow cook temperatures and they were all good, the low setting for example was at 171 F.

The lid has 2 vent holes for steam that I plan to use for my smoke generator. One hole to put the smoke nozzle and the other to vent under the range hood fan, perfect!

One thing I am curious about, it looks as if the heating is done with induction. Can someone confirm?

My only single negative is the size but that cannot be helped. It measures 18 inches/ 40 cm. from handle to handle so storing may be a problem and the weight is not light at 13 pounds/ 6 Kg.

    Totally recommended!
