Runs smooth, great screen quality, and unless you’re installing a ton of large size games the 512GB SSD is good. It’s got it’s quirks- this is the first gaming laptop I’ve had that makes weird noises and physically lags a bit when you unplug it while using it, and I’ve noticed some instances (once a month or so) of graphical weirdness while watching videos online where things will get blurry and require a restart to fix itself- but for a gaming laptop with a 3060 at a decent price it so far seems like a winner. Great for someone who likes to keep up with a few new games every year and wants a machine that can handle that, though more hardcore folks may want to get something a bit bigger on the memory front.

    Here's what I like
    -Keyboard
    -Frame / Bottom / Lid
    -Size
-Came with a zip up sleeve

I'm able to do my gaming on the go with this. It has the ports I need and have not had the other issues people are sharing. I am using it with a laptop cooler I bought however.

    Things I don't like
-Backlight bleeding in a few spots
    -Shipped with LOTS of bloatware

I was able to fix most the issues I had by just blowing away the operating system and re-installing a fresh OS with no bloatware.

Everything of the laptop almost look perfect to me except a hardware defective. So the issue I had with my laptop is when I plugged in my headphone into the jack, the left side is always not working (apple headphone has no sound while Acrux just has buzzing sound and both headphones work fine on my other laptop) while bluetooth mode fully works. After several hours of research and talking to multiple Acer technician on chat and on phone, we went through several debugging processes like reinstalling the audio drive, checking the balance setting and other properties of headphone, resetting the power and so on. And the final conclusion is there is hardware issue and I need to send the laptop to their repair center (shipping fee is covered, but I have to buy packing materials myself and meanwhile this process might take like 10 days). Though this is not a big hardware defect, it is super inconvenient that I can't use my wired headphone on it.

    The Good:
    Speed. Speed. And more speed.
The extra bay allowed me to place my old hard drive in it as a bootable device, so I lost nothing
I have not had any operating issues at all and it has handled everything I've thrown at it soo far, but I am not a super-high-end gamer

    The Downsides:
Opening case to add old hard drive requires special tool, but I was able to use blunt end of window razor instead of buying one. If your not comfortable working on stuff and/or don't have the tool, then you may need to pay to have it done.
There is bleed in the corners. If it is something that bothers you, then you will be annoyed. I, personally, don't play anything where it is noticeable to me unless I look for it. But it is very obvious on a black screen.
My skin PH balance is weird. My skin will destroy all metals except real gold. Where my left palm rests on it, the paint is literally gone and it shows bare metal. I'm not sure if it is my PH or an issue with it's construction, but it doesn't effect anything to go through the problem of doing a return.

This thing packs a serious punch. It has handled everything I've thrown at it without issue. I honestly have no complaints at all.

If I absolutely had to choose something it'd be the battery life. It lasts maybe 2-3 hours even with the system just sitting idle. Personally not an issue with me because anywhere I plan to use it there is an available outlet to plug into.

Other than that everything is great.

I returned this unit because came with a dead pixel on the screen but I order another one because I really like this laptop I think that for the price you can’t find better deal-configuration i7 11800h+Rtx 3060.

I play any game 1080p max settings and I always get 60+ frames is just a very good all around gaming laptop for the price.

This is a gaming laptop so don't be expecting 12 hr long battery life if you're doing things like gaming, 3d modeling, etc. I love the customizable keyboard and matte feel. The only con is 500GB storage is probably not enough unless you're constantly cleaning out storage and using an external hard drive, you can also put in your own ssd but the warranty will most likely be invalid if you do that so i suggest doing that after the warranty expires.

This gaming laptop offers a great gaming experience for a amazingly affordable price. With all the tech packed into this beauty, I'm surprised it didn't cost hundreds more. Used with a 144Hz 27" HD monitor, it really shines and provides a much better gaming experience than my Xbox ever did. I don't know about battery life since I have only used it plugged into the power supply so far. Still surprised I got such a powerful gaming laptop for such a relatively low price!

Overall impression its a great mid range laptop for the money. Highly recommend that you upgrade to 32G of ram first and foremost. Secondly I added a 2tb Samsung SSD along with another 2TB Samsung M.2 Drive. Laptop has connectors for the additional ssd slot along with one open m.2 slot. The laptop comes with 16g ( 2 x 8 ) so I ended up buying 2 x 16 crucial 3200 for a easy going price. Great PC, make sure you get yourself a cooling pad and you won't need to worry. Great build, CPU GPU.

Very nice machine. Fast. A little on the noisy side but it is a gaming laptop, win some lose some. I like that it has an extra m.2 slot and an open SATA ssd bay. Did not like mine came loaded with Windows 11 instead of Windows 10 like stated on the purchase page but I'm just being picky.
Sa far as performance it's good enough for almost any game. This will run ( for me at least ) Crisis 3, Witcher 3, Doom Eternal, Portal 2 and Universe Sandbox 2 on max settings and maintain 60fps (as high as my tv goes) with no issues except for the eventual fan noise. Even has a button to turn the fans to full speed on command.
I have run Novabech to get some real numbers and the results place the performance of my laptop between the upper level of midrange gaming desktops and entry-level high end gaming desktops. So, I'm satisfied with the purchase.

At a time and place where standard video cards are running $1000+ for halfway decent "value" cards, this laptop delivers everything it could for less than $1500. Was a desktop replacement for my son, who has it hooked up to a 50" 4k display at 60Hz without any issues (It 'should' be able to run 120Hz, but the TV doesn't support it) The insides to upgrade hard drive and memory are generally speaking not very easy to get into and in practice, they really don't want the consumer to do it themselves, but we upgraded ours to 32GB and added a 1TB NVMe drive to the system and it's really set to do anything he needs for quite some time.

-Yea fans do get loud when gaming but you have the option to use turbo or extreme mode
-I recommend buying a cooling pad (IETS GT300 is the best one, I bought it myself)
    - the laptop has DTX spacial audio built in for headphone users so invest in a good pair of headphones as well
    - fans are not noticeable when wearing headphones during gaming even on turbo mode
    - Intel i7 11gen, 144 hZ, RTX 3060 are phenomenal components
Overall laptop score 10/10, this includes the performance, graphics, weight, screen, GPU and CPU, and the bargain of a price

Nothing much to say, really. My main purpose reviewing is telling you about the gotchas in video for this PC. Overall, though, it is absolutely excellent. It is utra quiet even with the fans running at high speed. It does get hot, but no performance issues.

What I learned about video setup: There are three display ports in this PC:

    1. Mini DisplayPort v1.4.
    2. HDMI port v2.1.
    3. Thunderbolt port v4 (USB-C).

All display ports are capable of 4K @60Hz at least. I run my PC connected to 2 LG UltraFine 31.5in monitors at that resolution and refresh rate. However, the DisplayPort function embedded in the Thunderbolt v4 port is run by the integrated Intel HD graphics card, NOT the nVidia RTX3060 card. This is VERY IMPORTANT for gaming: The Intel integrated graphics card will NOT support DirectX 12 Ultimate.

On the other hand, displays connected through ports 1 or 2 above will be un by the nVidia RTX3060 card that does support DirectX 12 Ultimate. The difference is night and day. True, I am not loading the most hardcore games ever, but still. So you get a frame of reference, my main 2 games are Age of Empires II DE and Age of Empires IV. I run both in full desktop mode, meaning the 2 monitors treated as one big monitor. AoE II DE reports consistent FPS of 60 (I have V-Sync on, which limits FPS to that of the monitor's refresh rate) with all graphics settings on. AoE IV does not seem to have a way to show the FPS, but it does run super smoothly.

So there. Enjoy this super high end PC at a super low price. Oh, and you MUST use quality 8K-graded cables. FYI, the HDMI cables that shipped with my LG monitors are garbage. Get Vanky or some other reputable 8K cables.

This laptop is most definitely one of the best there is for its price range. To start the build quality of this laptop is impressive, lots of metal and a really sturdy and rugged design compared to other laptops that seem to try and save money at this price point by using cheap plastic. Games run great on this you can expect at least 60 fps on most AAA titles on high settings, some more graphically intensive games you may need to lower these settings but overall great laptop definitely recommend.

I'm not a huge fan of gaming laptops in general (desktop preferred). And Acer would not normally come to mind when you think of high-end gaming systems (Alienware or ASUS are probably more likely to be on you list). However, with the specs on this Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-54-760S, it deserves a spot VERY close to the top of your list! And price point is very competitive floating around (depending on when/where you purchase) $1300.00 - 1400.00.

    FULL SPECS:

    CPU: 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11800H | 8 Core | 16 Threads | 24 MB of level 3 Cache | 2.3 GHz | 4.6 GHz

    RAM: 16GB | DDR4 3200MHz | Single Channel 2x SO-DIMM Slots

    Storage: 512GB SSD | 1x 2.5-inch SATA Slot for SSD/HDD Expansion | 2x M.2 Slots

GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 6 GB VRAM | Intel UHD Graphics Xe 750 32EUs

    Display: 15.6 Inches | FHD (1920 x 1080) | LG Philips LP156WFG-SPF3 | 144Hz

    Battery: 58 Watt hour

    Operating System: Windows 10

    Ports: 3x USB 3.0 (Type A) | HDMI | Rj- 45 Ethernet Jack | 1x Thunderbolt 4 Type C | Mini-DisplayPort | 3.5 mm Combo Audio Jack

Other Features: Keyboard: Backlit, Chicklet Style | Weight:2.2 Kg | Additional Features: Bluetooth 5, Thunderbolt 4, Wifi 6

    WHO IS THIS FOR?

Gamers of course! This unit can handle most AAA games with ease, but is also an excellent unit for students (that may double as gamers at night) or anyone that needs a powerful system to render video, audio, software development or any other high-end processing.

    NOTES WORTH MENTIONING:

PREMIUM BUILD - Aluminum (mostly) with some plastic. Huge exhaust vents (on the sides & back.) And only 5lbs. This is a full-size laptop without the full-size weight. Although it can get a little loud when fans ramp up under load. But that happens in bursts (as to be expected) to bring system down to operable temps.

CPU - 11th Gen / i7 / 8 Octa-Core Intel CPU. Some may argue that an AMD proc would be better suited here. However, this generation Intel processor can go head-to-head with an AMD Ryzen without missing a beat.

DISPLAY - Huge 15.6 FHD IPS display running at 144Hz with 3ms response time. Can achieve up to 4k resolutions @ 60fps. Enough said.

RAM & STORAGE - Although it is dual-channel, you will get 16GB of RAM. It's also very nice to see 512GB of PCIe Gen4 SSD storage as many laptops offering 256GB are considered high-end.

OS - 64 bit Windows 10 with free upgrade to Windows 11. Ships only with Home. Pro would have been nice.

GRAPHICS - The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GPU with 6GB of VRAM makes short work of your gaming needs. You can dig into the geeky specs yourself, but just know that you can get 60fps at 1080p on most games without issue.

FUTURE PROOFING - 3x USB 3.0, HDMI, RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet (becoming harder to find as laptops continue to shrink in size), Thunderbolt 4 (Type C) port, Mini DisplayPort jack, 3.5 surround sound DTSX audio out (although some reviews say the audio is a little flat, I've found no issues with it), 2x M.2 slots, Backlit keyboard, Bluetooth 5 & Wifi 6. Lot's of expansion options here. This unit is pretty tricked out for a laptop. Oddly, there is no memory card reader???

BATTERY LIFE - Don't expect stellar run time if you're gaming (or doing any resource intensive activities). Acer states 6 hours battery life on a full charge. However, I would say more like average of 2-3hrs depending on your power save settings, applications, etc.. That's to be expected. Run off of AC power to avoid any issues. And battery charges to full capacity in about 2 hrs.

Maybe hardcore gamers can nitpick this gaming laptop, Lord knows youtube is filled with many opinions about it (this review is for the US version...apparently corners were cut in some markets resulting in a performance hit), but after a month I can say that I think I nailed it on price vs. performance after days of research and given my sub $2000 budget. It has the requisite 16gb of RAM and the 6gb of ram on the 3060 future proofs it for a few years. (I almost fell for the 4gb 3050ti...don't do it). It is very expandable. I immediately added a 1 TB NVMe drive and found it easy to open the case and install. There is room and supplied adapter for another SSD beyond that, or you can take that spot over with a larger battery. RAM is removable. I am not a hardcore gamer so I am very happy...haven't found a game or tech demo that the 3060 can't do at least 60 fps at ultra settings. Most older games run around 120-140 fps. Build quality is not up to par with the higher end business laptops I am use to, but it is not far off. This was a very good buy at $1200.

So far I've been running a couple of games on this laptop. It runs Fallout 4 in high settings 30-40 FPS. Rust runs good too. This is my first laptop with a dedicated graphics card. Good purchase :)

Had the laptop for about 4 months I have had no issues played every game I own with no issues. Except Skyrim for some reason. Upgraded the SSD took about 10 minutes taking the back off was kind of a pain. Overall a solid laptop I travel a lot so I bought it. If your not going to travel a lot just buy a prebuilt or build your own PC.

Using mini dp to vr game star wars and Alyx at medium seems playable, 70+frames in boarderlands 3 hdmi out. Rtx stays below 80c. Although Ray tracing enable destroys this card in guardians of galaxy. Still pretty solid 1080p machine. With ray tracing enable I cannot get the card to max wattage for some reason it tops at 95w ): maybe driver issues. My screen does have bleed through but it’s not noticeable while watching movies or YouTube so it not to bad to me . The included 512 ssd is pcie gen 4. The aluminum is nice and keyboard is good too. Upgraded to win 11 easy. I like this laptop a lot, can be loud though.

This laptop was basically exactly what I was looking for. Before then, I never owned a true gaming PC. The only computer I owned before that wasn’t a hand-me-down was a 2016 Acer Aspire E15 with an Intel i5 and a NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics card with 8GB of memory. Needless to say, for any serious type of gaming, it was not to last. Games like Sonic Generations had the fan screaming in agony and the game would freeze at random points and games like Street Fighter V at lowest settings ran at about half speed. The only other modern gaming system I have was the Nintendo Switch, and while I love that system, it’s not the best main drive to play the latest blockbuster releases from 3rd Parties. And so, I began looking for a new gaming PC. I tried looking for a desktop all summer but I could never afford or find the parts I wanted and the prebuilt options didn’t impress me. But in September of this year I found this little guy and it had everything looking for it. I saved it up and got it at a discount of $1,100 with some extras such as a new mouse, mousepad, and backpack.

When this PC came in, the difference to this and my old one was night and day. The screen’s higher refresh rates and 16 GB of RAM felt almost unreal to me for a bit, but it was a beautiful experience. The packaging was beautiful, the system itself looks gorgeous, but a gaming PC is only as good as it’s gaming capabilities were. Oh boy, was I amazed. The first thing I set up was the Dolphin emulator with Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and I got it set up in a matter of minutes and did some upscaling. With the combination of my trusted 8bitdo SN30 Pro+, it felt like a dream playing games on it. So far, I’ve loved all this thing has done for emulation. Granted, I’ve only set up stuff as recently as Wii U, but that system runs so well that I was convinced it was just some native PC port. From NES to Sega Saturn to Wii U and more, your emulation needs will be in good hands here.

What about actual PC games? Don’t worry, it’s awesome on here. Personally, I don’t have too many PC games to use for reference so don’t take my word for everything. Sonic Generations ran beautifully at max settings (as it should since it’s a game from 2011), but when I got to Street Fighter V, it hit me just how much I could do with this. I can play this game with max settings on 1080p and it runs perfectly. Yeah, it’s a game from 2015/2016 on the PS4 so I should expect this, but keep in mind that my previous PC couldn’t even do this game at minimum settings and you can see why I’m so happy about this. The experience was nothing short of brilliant. And the fan, while not silent, isn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Unless you put the PC into Turbo Mode with overclocking, the fan is more than passable and won’t be much of a distraction. The speakers are great as expected, and even on lower settings are quite well and projected perfectly. I’m not the type of guy to blare my game’s volumes on 100% but if that’s you, you’ll have some fun with this guy. The screen, as mentioned, is nothing short of beautiful. Great colors, viewing angles, and a great refresh rate makes viewing stuff on this as good as you could want from a 1080p IPS display. As long as you don’t expect a $3,000 monster machine performance, you’ll be in good hands here.

While I’ve raved about this PC for a while, there are a few things I could’ve wished they did better with. Thankfully, this system is decent when it comes to built in stuff but the boot-up sound is a little annoying. Thankfully, it can be turned off which I did right away. The screen, as I said before, is lovely, but I kind of wish it was a 4K panel. I’m not sure how well this guy does with 4K content, but I guess I’d rather do 1080p at 144 FPS than 4K at 60 FPS. It’s kinda up to you. The battery life isn’t hot. It’s advertising to doing about 6 hours in it’s own but I wouldn’t expect that. This is certainly something you keep on your desk plugged in at all time. Plus, performance is hit pretty badly if it’s not plugged in so this isn’t something I’d want to keep on my lap. My third biggest issue is the process of replacing storage and RAM. My last computer handled this well, with a little door to change everything on the bottom with little to no problems. But, despite being a gaming product where a majority of people would want to change this stuff easily, you can’t. You gotta take off the back, use a prying tool to lift up the click in order to expose the bottom and take it off. I don’t know what’s up with mine, but I can’t do it. I bought a Samsung 1TB M.2 drive to improve the adequate but lacking 512 GB of internal storage. But nope, the clips would not only refuse to come off no matter what I did, but the top part that I needed to get off was stick like glue. I had to stop trying because I was either going to permanently damage the insides or do more cosmetic harm to the bottom play. Thankfully, the nicks aren’t too noticeable and the only part that got scratched was the top left hand part of the bezel of the screen. But still, what gives, Acer? This is a gaming PC, not a MacBook. I get you companies like making these laptops as non-modular as possible, but you’re shooting yourself in the foot with product longevity. If it weren’t for the fact that everything else with this computer is everything I could’ve wanted, this would’ve been an absolute dealbreaker for me. But ultimately, whether or not this is a major issue to you is something I cannot declare. That’s up to you.

Regardless, besides not being a $3,000 tank of a gaming PC and having some annoying restrictions in terms of user configurations, I’m nothing short of happy with this product. Compared to my last laptop, this one is the real deal that will last me throughout college. This is probably one of the few purchases I’ve made where I can say that it was worth every penny. But, c’mon Acer, stop with this bottom plate garbage. You’re better than this. Other than that, kudos to you and your engineering team earns my respect.

I previously had an older version of this acer predator back when the 1060 was out and felt it was time for an upgrade. This laptop out of all of the gaming laptops that I previewed had the best spec that I could find without completely breaking the bank. The 3060 runs 1080p gaming at 120+mhz refresh rate easily. It's quiet and I have no cons to think of so far a month in.

Was able to do more than I expected with this laptop. I can play a lot of big title games with a mix of mid to high settings. The sound is about what you would expect from a laptop but nobody picks a laptop based on it's stock speakers. Says it has windows 10 but you will be asked to upgrade to 11 for free on startup. If you're looking for an affordable laptop to get started with PC gaming, I can recommend this one from my experience.

This is my first gaming laptop in 7-8 years. I am astonished how fast this laptop is even with the base model and the video card only being a 3060. To be clear this is the one I have: Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-54-760S Gaming Laptop | Intel i7-11800H | NVIDIA GeForce 3060.
The benchmarks I thought were pretty strong. I am a bit of a power hungry user so the first thing I did was buy more ram and upgrade to 32gb. I also have this as a CON. So bios is locked by Acer so if you do a RAM upgrade you cannot adjust voltages to make sure its running at its fastest. You have to make sure you buy 100% compatible memory and even then the system may or may not recognize and auto adjust to the fastest speed. I went through a few pairs but settled on close to optimal performance.
Another quick upgrade I made was adding a 2.5 ssd drive since the included M2 drive is a bit small (but FAST)

Pros: Strong CPU, decent GPU, and expandability for more HDs or external devices (many USB 3.0+ ports)
Cons: Bios is locked, decent amount of bloatware, loud fans but kinda expected

This laptop comes with everything you need. The i7 and 3060 combo is great for gaming. The 1080 screen with 144hz is smooth and fairly sharp. Also the upgradability is fantastic, you can throw in another m.2, a 2.5 inch ssd or hard drive, and switch both ram slots for higher capacity. The only downsides, screen has some bleed and the battery life is quite bad. Make sure you keep it plugged in, I get maybe 3 hours of internet browsing/streaming off of a full charge.

Honestly, so far so good. I bought this computer to play games from steam since my other one did not have the specs. to run allot of games that I wanted to try and play. The bad thing is, I've only had this laptop for a month and something is wrong with the A/C adapter. Every time I load up a game from steam the battery light and the power light start flashing and the computer "disconnects" from the adapter and it stops charging while both lights stay flashing while I have a game loaded up to play. I've disconnected the adapter multiple times and plugged it back in and it tries to start recharging the computer but then the lights just start flashing again and makes beeping noises. So, I'm guessing that maybe the A/C adapter is faulty in a way since I've never dropped it or anything.

This is a pretty powerful gaming laptop. The laptop has an 8 core 16 thread i7 and an RTX 3060 Laptop GPU and will be great for gaming and productivity. The screen is an IPS screen so it is pretty color accurate so it should be decent for photo and video editing. The GPU is not the same as a standard desktop RTX 3060 and is weaker but should still be great for gaming at 1080p. Overall this is a really nice gaming laptop and is decent enough to be a main gaming rig for most people.

I do t like that the ram is locked at gear mode 2 effectively cutting your ram speed in half. Even after unlocking the bios, there's nothing you can do because there isn't support for xmp. Everything is jdec spec.

Undervolting is essential, and -70mv is pretty much gaurenteed stable and it makes my cinebench scores go up substantially as the cores don't thermal throttle anymore under load. A cooling pad can help.

The thing I really don't like tho is the nvme speed. Even at pcie4.0 x4 which both ports are supposed to support, crystaldiskinfo only gives me 50-70mbps read speed and 330mbp write. Raid0 doesn't do much for it either. For comparison, the sata SSD I added with rapid mode on is 700/800mbps respectively.

No one seems to point out the slow nvme speeds and this has been consistent for me from two of these laptops. Also, in the unlocked bios I can change the default display color depth from 18 to 24bit. Why that ain't default is beyond me.

Anyways, other than that it works great lol.

    Otherwise, it runs great

This is my first gaming laptop n so far I am enjoying it. It does get a little loud but it’s alright with me. It runs games pretty smooth. For the battery life I usually keep it plug in when I’m gaming. I would recommend this to a friend who wanted to do some laptop gaming.

I needed a laptop that could run the Valve Index, for a super cool art project that I got a grant for. After many, many hours of researching laptops and one whole purchase-and-return of an Alienware machine, I got this one. It runs its video right off the graphics card through the mini DispalayPort and it handles the hard specs of the Index amazingly well. And it does it for cheap. GET IT GET IT GET IT!

    Will update after testing.

This is a great little laptop with lots of power for the price. Gen 11 i7, an RTX 3060, Thunderport 4, and a very bright 144 Hz display. But there are plenty of reviews that will list out all the wonderful specs. Here are my only complaints. I do have some light bleed around the top and bottom edges of the screen which is disappointing. It is hard to find the battery specs on this laptop but I think it is something like 59 MAH. You you pack this much horse power in a chasey I wish it contained a max 99 MAH battery. There is an extra 2.5" drive bay next to the battery, it would be awesome to offer a bigger battery option at the sacrifice of the drive bay. Lastly, a MUX switch would have been great. I understand this would add to the cost but I would pay extra for those options and a MUX switch it relatively cheap to build into a laptop. Other than that, I researched close to 30 laptops before settling on this one and it did not disappoint.

TL:DR Well designed power user/gamer/VR laptop with decent hardware for the price! Works with Oculus Quest 2.

I’m a power user: 3D CAD, 2D CAD, graphic design, video editing…all at the same time as I’ll use the same graphics between them all! I also use it with my Oculus Quest to play Steam games and it works flawlessly! Good hardware packed into the price. Great value. It's ready for Windows 11 too but I think I'll wait a few years for MS to finish it before upgrading haha. The build quality is great and if you are a gamer the TURBO button will overclock the machine without you having to do anything. Great gaming laptop for the price hands-down!

Received this laptop as a birthday gift from my wife. Wanted to get something that would allow me to play the latest games without lag and replace my old laptop that had a failing keyboard. I use my computers for hours on end and have put this through it's paces. For the price (especially considering the cost of things going up) this has been great.

Also received 2 game downloads and a laptop sleeve, which are a nice bonus. It's almost unheard of in this economic climate for additional things to be added to a purchase.

I'm 99% satisfied with the speed, features, fans, look of the computer. My biggest issues which knock it down to 4.5 stars are the smaller hard drive; really anything less than 1tb is brutal given how big media is now. Yes I realize the cloud is a thing, but frankly I hate it and don't trust using it. It does the space to slot in more storage and I broke down and did (easy process, took 5 min)

The other issue is the volume. Yeah laptops aren't known for their sound, most of the laptops I've purchased I always paid for an upgraded sound card or when building my own would upgrade the sound card. It's not an issue when listening to everything, but occasionally a video or game will be noticeably quieter than I would like at max volume.

All in all though, especially for this price, the laptop is a great. I expect to get a few years out of it and have no issue thus far. To close this is probably the nicest laptop I've ever had. The keyboard lights, the light on the back of the laptop, nice sleek lines. Hopefully my kids don't start popping the keys off of this laptop like my kids did to my old Alienware.

This Model Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-54-760S | Intel i7-11800H/ NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6Gb....... support 64GB Ram!!! I just buy by mistake and upgrade:

    * SAMSUNG 980 PRO 1TB PCIe NVMe Gen4 Internal Gaming SSD M.2 (MZ-V8P1T0B)

*Samsung 870 QVO SATA III 2.5" SSD 2TB (MZ-77Q2T0B) the laptop brings the sata HDD adapter easy to connect

    *Crucial RAM 32GB DDR4 3200 MHz CL22 Laptop Memory CT32G4SFD832A x 2 = 64GB RAM

And the laptop just works perfect, have an annoying sound of Acer Predator but is ok

I also install a *Crucial P5 500GB 3D NAND NVMe Internal SSD, up to 3400MB/s - CT500P5SSD8 in the other M2 port just because I have it from other PC

The seller said in the description just support 32Gb ram max but is not true, the laptop came with 16gb ram (2x8) Kingston

I'm very happy with this laptop, I think I reach the maximun potencial for this laptop and is very good for the price, I use for DENTAL CAD CAM WORK and just works perfectly, I choose this laptop because the miniDisplay port that allow me to install an intraoral scanner from Planmeca "Plascan" and works gorgeus.

I upgrade to Windows 11 but Idk to much.... anyways I recommend this laptop

I am very surprised by the quality of this laptop. It is the best sub 2000$ laptop I have ever owned by far. The sound is actually pretty decent. The NVME is a SAMSUNG_MZVL25123 which is a PCIE Gen 4 drive that I was getting about 4.5Gbps read speed (25 percent faster than my Samsung EVO 970). The motherboard (in my model) is a TGL QX60_TLS and the RAM is Kingston DDR 4 PC3200. The Video Card vendor name is Hynix and it does include 6 GBytes of ram with a 192 bit bus. The display is 144 Mhz as described and it gets bright. The IPS back-panel does show some bleed-through but you can only really tell when you shut the laptop down and start it up. It also has a second NVMe slot (on the other side of the laptop) and has the insulator pre-installed on the bottom of the top panel. The keyboard is a little better than "adequate" but not better enough to call it "good". Key travel is short and does not give a very satisfying feed-back.
I could go on all day and provide benchmarks. This laptop has reviews all over the place online and it gets at least really good reviews everywhere I researched it.
The point is that this is the best "budget" gaming laptop I have ever seen.

Overall the laptop is a decent buy for the price. I threw in a 2TB SSD and it is good to go. So far it is running games and apps with no problems. The main issues I have with it is that it feels super cheap to me. It the corners are sharp and almost scratch you if you rub your hands over them. The screen also has some bleeding on in a few spots on the top boarder. These are not deal breaking issues but I am concerned that taking it to work everyday it might become an issue since it feels like it could break at any time.

Battery is atrocious as is the speakers and Webcam.
512GB SSD is very lacking size wise, but added another 2TB SSD as there are 2 slots for for SSD drives and another for 2.5 inch hard drive. Ram is also easily upgradable.

This laptop performs as advertised, Delivers high frames for most AAA games.
Storage is lacking at first but can be very easily upgraded with a 2nd NVme drive as well as 2.5 SSD.
The screen is BEAUTIFUL and delivers stunning graphics on ultra settings.
Speakers are loud enough to hear while fans are on max and on a cooling pad.
Acer software lets you monitor and change things to personalize the PC to you.
Battery life is suspect, around 2 hours on max settings while gaming, definitely need to be near an outlet.

So Im a 40+ year old MAN, that likes to game! I also do a lot of traveling so I need a laptop that can game while Im on the road, and use in a professional manner. Sadly this is a difficult thing to find! Not to mention affordable! My last laptop I had was an Asus gaming laptop that had the words "Pit Viper" emblazoned on the front lid of it. And guess what.....Im now known around the office as Pit Viper! Which may seem cool, but when you explain to people why they are calling you that it looses its luster real quick! So farewell to that.

My old pit Viper laptop however was no slouch. It had a 2060 GPU and a Ryzen 4900HS processor. It played games excellently, but looked absolutely silly and more like a childs toy than an actual tool. I figured with this laptop the minor upgrade to a 3060 would be very nominal, but boy was I wrong. It turned out to be a huge improvement for the 2060. The 3060 runs coolers, has much much higher FPS and benches significantly better. Now the CPU on the other hand of this model definelty has its trade offs. It is by no means as fast or as mean as my old 4900hs, but it does use a lot less power than the 4900hs which when you are presenting and dont want to plugin is especially a bonus. However its just no where near as robust as the 4900hs was. Evreything else about this laptop is pretty spot on and pretty run of the mill. The screen is great, with massive refresh and great brightness. It is clear with no lagging or dead pixels. The keyboard has good actuation and not like the short throw macs or other ultrabooks. Battery life is about what you expect out of gaming laptop. For gaming your only going to get about 40 minutes of of this. But for general word processing and work this is really where this Intel processor shines and you get an easy 4+ hours out of single charge, which my old AMD asus would only get about 2.5 at very best. Predictably the laptop is pretty thick as it needs a lot of room to run those fans and vent the hot air, but its still very compact and not terribly heavy. As like everything there are always pros/cons

    Pros;
-Incredible value for what you get, hundreds cheaper than its comparable brethren
-Huge improvement leap with 3060 over 2060 and below
    -Runs cool with no throttling
-Intel processor sips power and is great for long work sessions
-Looks great and doesnt look like a normal silly looking gaming laptop.

    Cons;
-Intel processor while good isnt great, you have to trade off for battery life
-Still made of plastic. However at this price point what do you expect?
-Power brick is massive. Weighs nearly as much as laptop itself. You also cant go without bringing it so you are always trucking it along as well.
-Acer bloatware is clunky. However easily deleted

All in all for a value priced laptop with high end components there is no equal. Its also great for the "adult" crowd who aren't interested in silly lighting or goofy pictures on the unit. It can easily be used in a professional environment just as much as a gaming session. I am incredibly happy that I can get away from my old nick name as well. RIP Pit Viper (you wont be missed)

You know Acer is speaking to you when you open the box, lift the heavy power brick, and see (because it's bigger) that they are using a standard computer power cable instead of the usual brick cable (a plus, because you can misplace the cable!), but then you see a small package of screws. Why? So you can upgrade the SSD (this model shipped with 512GB) if you want.

That speaks to me. We're not just gamers, we're tweakers and perfectionists. OK, I exaggerate.

    PRO
    - Cool, efficient boot process. Lights, camera (well, display) & (keyboard) action.
    - Boot keyboard illumination signals might be useful given a legend
    - Illuminated keys
    - Wi-Fi 6 (a serious improvement -- see Consumer Reports story on benefits for WiFi 6 routers)
    - Even the network ports are named "Killer." Now we're talkin' (courtesy of the Intel Killer DoubleShot Pro)
    - Wired ethernet port
    - Adequate USB-A and USB-C ports
    - You'll notice the 144Hz refresh rate
    - Expandable - 1 x 2.5" Hard Drive Bay unused
    - Memory slots not hard-wired
    - NVIDIA GeForce 30

    CON
    - FHD only
    - No touchscreen
    - Not USB-C style PSU (interchangeable with other laptops, hubs, docks)
    - No Thunderbolt
    - Norton bundle (I guess this holds down the cost?)
    - You'll want 32GB

    NOTE
I have to change my PC hygiene a little, since this computer supports concurrent Wi-Fi and wired connections. (I usually disable one in order to simplify things for the drivers, or at least the part of the stack that has to sort this out.) I was skeptical, but it did seem to work, at least on a modest load. Nice.

    SUMMARY
You get a lot for the bucks here, considering the Nvidia component. Of the missing features, the tradeoff that bothers me most is the touchscreen, since we're so often switching between smartphone and laptop.

I researched for hours and came up with this Acer Predator Helios. Worked right out of the box. Note - my edition had two 8 GB memory sticks, and I bought two more 16 GBs to replace it and "go all the way". I also bought a 1 TB hard drive to finish the job.

I can set games to ultra graphics settings for the first time ever!! I use a towel and a travel pillow when I use it on my lap.

Screen is amazing, the laptop is as fast as can be. Very pleased!!

This Acer computer is very well built with great specs. I love the fast 512 GB SSD drive. It makes everything so much faster. There is room for a second hard disk if you need one. The screen is bright and sharp. But it is not a touch screen.

The keyboard is very responsive and is a light show on to itself....lots of pretty blue lights shining and blinking. The Trackpad is very responsive. Lots of ports, including including Thunderbolt, 3 USB ports, HDMI, Mini Display and Ethernet.

There is really good ventilation to keep everything cool when gaming....vents on both sides and really large vents on the bottom.

The build quality of this Acer is extremely good. Everything is solid.

The only thing I was unable to do is use the Windows Hello Fingerprint or Face ID. I'm still working on it, so see why I can't get windows to recognize it. The camera works fine...just not recognized by Windows Hello.

The Graphics Card is an Nvdia RTX 3060. Did I mention this computer is FAST? IT IS FAST. Highly Recommended.

I love doing tech reviews and if you want more in-depth reviews check out my YouTube channel "OndaWire" where I give the pros and the cons on everything. Working from has become challenging and finding a good PC to get my work, video and photo editing, side task, reviews, watching movies, and some gaming done is a challenge. I found this Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-54-760S Gaming Laptop a little over a month ago and have been using it every day, and ALL I CAN SAY IS, WOW!!!
    Pros:
    1. If you want top-of-the-line specs, LOOK NO FURTHER! This gaming laptop is LOADED! This model has a 512GB SSD and has all the ports you need.
    2. It's running the latest 11th generation i7 11800H processor with 8 cores running at 2.3 GHz and this thing is fast! I love how it threads and isolates power priority over just simple usage. What I mean is, it sends power to what needs power and uses less power on what doesn't need that much power.
    3. It is also topped with a 15.6-inch screen running at 144Hz and for those of you who are wondering what this means, let's just say, you WILL NEVER WANT TO GO BACK TO 60Hz. The screen refresh rate is SO FAST and SMOOTH! On 60Hz you will at times notice a glitch when gaming and at 144Hz, you will never see that! It makes things move so smoothly. The picture is super crisp and the details with the graphics really stand out especially when playing games.
    4. I do some gaming, but I do a lot of video editing and graphic editing. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card that this Helios 300 comes with is awesome and gives me all the power I need to do my video editing and the little bit of gaming I do. It also has 6GB of dedicated GDDR6 VRAM, and this is awesome because it allows the video card to use its own power instead of having to pull from the main RAM. When gaming, the tracing, tensor cores, and multiprocessors allow support of DirectX 12 and this really enhances the gaming experience. A lot of this may sound like a lot, but when you turn this gaming PC on, you will be in awe!
    5. The keyboard is absolutely stunning. It is backlit and matches the same color on the back of the laptop. It also has number keys so you do have a full-fledged keyboard and do not have to add any extensions. The buttons are super smooth and not clunky, and they make almost zero noise when hitting them.
    6. You will not miss a beat when using Ethernet or the Wifi 6 capability that Acer Predator Helios 300 Laptop comes with. I testes the internet speeds multiple times and at numerous times of the day and night, and I had absolutely TOP SPEEDS. I have 1GB internet speeds where I live and I consistently got those speeds! If you haven't experienced the signal strength of wifi 6, it is game-changing, but make sure your router can produce wifi 6. If your router doesn't support wifi6, then this PC will top out whatever speeds your router can produce.
    7. The cooling system on this Helios 300 is TOP NOTCH! You will hear your fan(s) kick on when they need to but you will never have to worry about overheating and your laptop shutting off on you in the middle of working, editing, or gaming. It is super ventilated as well. It has vents on the back and the bottom. I added pictures to show as best as I could. I tried to add a video to show for this review, but it wouldn't let me add it since I added so many pictures. lol
    8. It comes with 16GB of DDR4 3200MHz memory and it also has another slot in case you want to add more (up to 16 more for a total of 32GB)
    9. The design of this laptop is elegantly stunning and built very well! You can tell when you pull this out of the box, that you have a MACHINE! There were definitely no shortcuts when they made this laptop!
    10. This is by far a laptop that and the price point makes it a GREAT DEAL and it comes with a carrying case.

    Cons:
    1. I know this is packed with a lot and it says that you will get 6 hours of battery life, but with intense gaming, video editing, or streaming with the volume up, I go close to 4 solid hours maybe just a bit more. I will admit that with the fan, Bluetooth, wifi, and other things running in the back, it's expected to drain the batter a little more but typically when I look at laptops, I would love if the description was more accurate. Since this is primarily a gaming laptop, I would love to see "expected" battery usage after being tested under tough/heavy usage. Maybe you will get 6 hours of battery life if you are doing schoolwork or just browsing.
    2. In the description on Amazon for this RTX 3060 it says that the processor is i7 running 4.6GHz per core, but it's not! On the box when you get it, and when you open the PC, it shows that the cores are only running at 2.3Ghz. When I tested it, they definitely ran at 2.3/2.4 GHz. So this was super misleading and I hope Acer fixes this in the description so customers don't think differently.
    3. This isn't that big of a con for me, but I wish I could somehow turn off the startup screen from making the loud start-up Predator sound. It's cool, but I can't figure out if I am to turn this off without wiping the PC?

Overall, I absolutely love this Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-54-760S Gaming Laptop and would HIGHLY recommend it! Even with the few cons that I listed, I still give this a 5 ***** star rating! This laptop is going to be with me for a very long time!

I will preface this review by saying that I am not much of PC gamer since I have a PS5, but I was in the market for a new laptop as we go into another year of working from home. I am in AWE of how fast, powerful and well-designed this baby is. The screen is big and has excellent display. The graphics are top notch, which is helpful to me as I take on more graphic design responsibilities for work, and the it has a very fast processor with more than enough storage and memory, that can even be upgraded to 32GB. For now the 16GB is sufficient but I love having that options. They keyboard is wonderful to type on and being able to use both Wifi and Ethernet connections at the same time means there is NOTHING that will stop you on it! There is a cooling mechanism on the bottom of the laptop for the hardcore gaming marathons so the machine runs efficiently no matter what you put it up to and it is integrated with Alexa so you have a personal assistant at the ready too!

The laptop IS very expensive but the investment you make in a high-end, high-performance machine means that you will not only be able to upgrade it but also will have it for years with no problems. I am so delighted with this laptop!

The Acer Predator Helios 300 is a mid-tier gaming laptop. The metal and plastic construction, makes a bit sturdy and it comes with very good hardware in this price point.

The screen is bright enough, better than the advertised 300 nits. It was able to reach 300 nits at around 75% brightness, and at 100% brightness it went up to 371 nits...not to shabby for a gaming display.
The display is fast at 144Hz @ just 3 ms and the color gamut was quite good 99% sRGB and 78% aRGB and just 83% DCI-P3. It should be able to handle photo and video editing and content creation like champ.
There is a bit of light bleed on top right and top left of the display on the unit I have.

The keyboard has a backlit 4-zone RGB and the it isn't bad, but the keys are a bit mushy to the touch. I just prefer a firmer keyboard keys...maybe I am bias because I use a mechanical keyboard. The Microsoft Precision Touchpad worked without issues and has been very responsive and accurate.

The USB C 3.2 Gen 2 port comes with Thunderbolt 4 and USB Charging and next to those ports HDMI 2.1 with HDCP support and Mini DisplayPort 1.4. There are two USB A 3.2 Gen 1 ports and USB A 3.2 Gen 2 that supports Power-off Charging.
The Thunderbolt port is might fast. I was able to reach 8.5 Gbit/s (1062 MB/s) speed copying files. You could transfer a 4k 25GB film in 20 seconds

The Predator Helios 300 comes with a full Gigabit Ethernet port so you won't lag for lack of reliable Internet connection.
And if you happen to have a Wi-Fi 6 internet, the Killer Wi-Fi 6 is as fast as the Gigabit LAN.

The sound is tiny, since the firing down speakers are tiny. The speaker area is 19mm thick and some laptop as thin as 13mm have been able to fit louder and better sounding speakers...of course they cost a lot more.
A least Acer included Dolby DTS X software that works great with external surround speakers or headphones, and you will need them if you want real sound.

    There are 2 DDR4 RAM slots, each one with 8 GB DDR4 3200 MHz RAM for a 16GB DDR4 total, upgradeable to 64GB DDR4.

Acer included 2 NVMe M.2 slots, one occupied by a lighting fast 512GB Samsung PCIe 4x4 NVMe capable of 6900 MB/s read and 5000 MB/s write speeds. Also there is a 2.5" SATA bay available. Acer included the SATA cable and screws in the box. In case you have a 2.5" HDD or SSD lying around and don't want part ways.
During tests the Samsung NVMe went above rated speeds on both read and write performance.

The battery is on the small size for a 15.6" gaming laptop. I would have prefer a larger capacity battery, instead of a 2.5" SATA bay. At least Acer came up front about the battery running time. They stated the 6 hours and how they achieved that results (Battery life was tested using video playback).
So make sure you have the power adapter next to you while gaming, since the battery won't last much unless you dial down screen brightness and disable the dedicated graphics.

The Predator Sense App have several settings to adjust lighting, fan speed and performance settings. There is 'Default', 'Extreme' and 'Turbo' options available. Setting the system to 'Turbo' increases system performance and consequently also increases fan speed exponentially. Of course, is necessary to keep the Intel Core i7 and the NVidia RTX 3060 cool and churning reducing throttling.
The cooling system does a very good job keeping the airflow going and it does even better job at cooling if the laptop is raised a couple of millimeters.

There isn't much to do in the BIOS, beside disabling the intro sound.

Acer does a very good job with the Predator Helios 300 performance and excellent pricing. The laptop is very responsive and it can handle most games above 60 fps on high settings. It has good build quality and the screen is even better than described.
It will be hard to find anything better at this price point and down the road you could upgrade RAM and M.2 SSD to keep up with never ending tech evolution.

The screen felt a bit flimsy, since it has a flexes a bit more than I would have liked. Avoid opening the screen from the sides and try opening right on the center.

My gpu has hit 2115mhz in Turbo, then like a civilwar buff it went right back to the 1800s. This laptop does punch well above its weight however even without the King Candy button.
My typical gaming platform is a very highend desktop. I have owned gaming laptops and this is what I noticed. Your performance is locked into a device that is limited in its performance because of its form factor and every manufacturer performs so different. I will give you some benchmarks and try to keep the rest short, but wont. As you are here for the 3060 and need some benchmarks.
Acer has put together a decent machine for the price. It is very well balanced, outside of storage. The full keyboard is great and quality. For a gaming laptop this is a must since most trainers for games use the keypads. Some have issues with the board, but I like it a lot. The sound is on the poorer side. It can get loud, but it is comparable to the Switch in quality. The aluminum case mixed with plastic has a high quality feel. The mouse pad is missing the two mouse buttons as is the trend. The bad trend.
The screen is 1080p and 144hz. At a stand still it looks fine. It is not great, to go against the other reviewers. You get what you pay for. It looks good. No HDR, motion is blurred to a high degree with no G sync or free sync, no controls outside of brightness and in windows calibrating. It is fine, and appropriate for the hardware and cost. 144hz is appropriate for competitive gaming. Make sure you get to know reshade or get nvidia's gefore now and use sharpening and clarity to really make the in game graphics pop and set refresh to 60hz in display when shooting for 60fps to remove any judder.
My next gripe is short. 512gb SSD is to small. It is very fast, but you will need to install another hard drive. Why not increase the price $50+ or so and go with 1tb? At $1299 this is already cheaper than most. Then there is a single channel 16gb ram, and wifi is excellent. The battery is on the limited side and is made small for a hard drive slot that could have been removed and replaced with more battery had they went with a larger base SSD. Its not a really big deal, but its a thought.
The 11th gen 8 core I7 is great, but throttles to 4.3-4.1mhz at times with temps in the low 80s or 70s. This will amount to nothing in most games as the cpu is rarely taxed and more than enough. This 3060 is the 90-105w version; my model hit 95w in quiet&auto and 105w in the other two modes. The 3060 is beefed up to its desktop counterpart with 7% more cuda cores. It should be weaker, but from my testing its on par with the founders. We are shooting for 60fps at 1080p so this should be easy enough for a 3060. I am not interested in a peak 2000mhz+ spike, when its the average you will have to live with. In long runs to heat everything up in quiet mode it averages 1610mhz(12.3teraflops), Auto 1690mhz(13tf), Extreme 1740mhz(13.3tf), Turbo 1780hmz(13.6tf). Temps range from low 70s to 60s in turbo and extreme. There are times when the cpu is less used and these numbers increase by 100mhz or more. Its not unusual to be in the 1800s for long periods of time in all modes. The vram is just 6gb but should be fine for 1080p or 1440p if you hook it up to a TV. The 3070 performs just 5-15% better and the train wreck of a cost perframe that is the 3080m can do 20% better with 150w and 50% the performance of the 3080 founders. There is no denying that the 3060m is the only sensible small form laptop gpu. The 3050 and 3050ti are 50 and 40% slower for about the same money. Oh and this beats the 80w 3070 and 3080 that cost way more. Every laptop model performs so differently that going by specs doesn't work well. So here is hard numbers I got from extensive testing.
Benchmarks average long term fps with modes Q=quiet A=auto E=Extreme T=Turbo.
    3DMark Firestrike Ultra-Q=4461 A=4549 E=4855 T=4953
Cyber Punk 2077 average Ultra DLSS auto A:58 T:65 Raytracing Med DLSS A:43 T:47
    Kingdom Come Deliverance A=66 T=67
    Flight Sim 2020 Ultra A=34 T=37 Medium A=61 T=64
    Mafia Definitive Highest A=71 T=76
    Assassin's Creed Valhalla Ultra Q=54 A=58 E=60 T=59
Red Dead Ultra No DLSS A=51 T=56
    Far Cry Primal Ultra Q=80 A=81 E=79 T=79
SpongeBob Battle for Bikini Bottom A=144 with no drops
    GTA V Ultra MSAAx2 Q=78 A=84 E=87 T=88
Simpsons Hit and Run with all maps connected mod A=280
Nearly every game runs north of 60fps at ultra or close to it on all modes in 1080p. This is basically a portable 1080ti with rtx. All images are at locked 60fps settings. Needless to say Fallouts, Elderscrolls, far crys, GTAs and emulation wont be a problem.
Wow! Extreme and Turbo though. Up to 10% more performance! How? FANS!!! It is impressive but it comes at a cost. In Q the fans are about as noisy as any laptop, Auto sees the fans increase to just under PS4 levels of noise, Extreme is like a PS4 Pro that you type on top of, and turbo. If Wreck It Ralph taught me anything, never go TURBO. What radically bodacious dude named these? I don't know if the keyboard has RGB or just the fans hit ludicrous speed. 100%fans at all times with a press of TURBO button! I walked 20 feet away, behind a wall and still could hear it. It is a useless thing that will shorten the life of your fans there to boost higher fps for publicity. It doesn't need it. There is predator software that you can set the fan speed but no fan curve. This stinks as the boosting is locked behind the near constant fan speed. And 100% is like a portable vacuum. My advise is to never use the turbo button and just stick with auto or quiet when you can. I am not mad that Acer can't make it quiet, since it needs to move air threw a small case and didn't break physics, but turbo is not worth the noise or wear.
Look you make your bed with gaming laptops and all their short comings. For normal use this performs excellent and offers a great value. For gaming it is an excellent value with good performance, but with some short coming you needed to be aware of. If you just want a laptop and game however often this is an excellent choice and the 3060m is the best value out there in 2021 in a laptop that is of excellent quality. Make sure you keep your laptop well ventilated. The Acer Predator with all of its flaws is an excellent product with great performance and value.

This is a laptop with a great combination of features and performance at a very attractive price. I play games, but I also wanted a mobile workstation for digital media work - and this laptop is excellent for this. For starters, the screen is really nice. Motion is smooth, color rendition is excellent and the display’s viewing angles give me good flexibility. I use this laptop, and go back to my old laptop - and such a world of difference. Contrast and brightness are great. The screen is an optimum size - balancing usability with portability.

Performance is not lacking. There is a “turbo” button which does what it says, but I am finding that I’m not really using it - the default gives me a good balance between performance and battery life. I tested battery life by running digital video editing and compositing tasks and was able to get a bit over an hour with moderate battery saving mode and screen set to stay on. The accompanying power supply is understandably large, given the specifications of the laptop. Cooling is exemplary - there are times when I’m working with graphically intensive tasks that the fan kicks in - but for my needs it’s quite acceptable, and the laptop never gets hot to the touch.

The keyboard has a nice feel, and the LED lighting can be left with a tranquil blue or set to other multicolor schemes. There is a numeric keypad - it’s small but still useful. Otherwise layout is fine - it took me a couple of minutes to adjust to it, but it’s good. The trackpad is OK, it tracks smoothly and is a good size. It’s offset to the left in order to line up with the space bar. The laptop comes with plenty of ports, notably Mini Displayport, HDMI and Thunderbolt 4. The computer ships with screws and an interface cable to add a 2.5 inch SSD, and Acer has a helpful online video on how to add it. Sound is OK - it would be better if the speakers were upward facing - it works for watching online streaming media, but there is not much low end.

This laptop offers great connectivity, expandability and a really nice display. Performance is better than any laptop I have previously owned. It looks low key (which is great), so it doesn’t call attention to itself - which I like. I can’t really find much to fault here - performance belies it’s affordable price - given all that is included. Having a portable graphics workstation is great.

This review is for the following laptop (since there are a few variants on this listing): "Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-54-760S Gaming Laptop | Intel i7-11800H | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU | 15.6" Full HD 144Hz 3ms IPS Display | 16GB DDR4 | 512GB SSD | Killer WiFi 6 | RGB Keyboard"

I am a lifelong gamer, and a few years ago I picked up a Dell gaming laptop that was in about the same price range as this one. That laptop was a disappointment for me and just immediately made me wish I had something better, so I ended up getting a top of the line desktop to replace it. I say this because I've had a gaming laptop void in my life, and was a little bit skeptical of laptops in this price range, but was still interested to give this one a whirl.

At first I was a little worried. The shipping box was partially crushed. Fortunately, Acer did a really spectacular job with the laptop packaging. Inside the shipping box is another relatively plain brown box, which looks like nothing special. Opening that, and you see a black box for the laptop, and, to my surprise, a neoprene style laptop sleeve for this laptop. Inside the black box is ANOTHER black box, very well packed, with the laptop inside of a fabric bag. I know the unboxing experience is not really all that critical, but I must say, I was very pleased and impressed with how this was all packed. If this were being gifted to someone, I'd probably open the brown box and wrap up the Predator branded black box that comes inside, and wrap the sleeve separately.

The sleeve it comes with has a zipper on it, and an Acer predator logo on one corner. It's a basic sleeve, a nice touch that it's included, but I will admit I have a bit of a phobia of these kind of sleeves, worrying that the zipper will scratch the laptop on the way in or out of the sleeve. I have been using it though, and so far so good.

After removing the laptop from the fabric bag it comes packed in, I was a little surprised at a few things. I typically expect a gaming laptop (especially "budget" ones) to be thick, bulky, oversized, heavy... and this one is none of those things. It's by no means compact or light, but it's just overall slimmer, thinner, and lighter than I anticipated. I was also really surprised at the finish. The back side of the screen, and the inside of the laptop by the keyboard is all metal and just looks and feels very nice. The budget Dell gaming laptop I have is thicker, heavier, and all plastic, so this was just a pleasant surprise.

Powering the laptop on, there's a loud airplane taking off sound (not the fans) that plays during bootup. I haven't figured out how to turn that off. Windows 10 setup was simple, the only thing notable was during the setup I was prompted to create an Acer ID and register the device, and there was no way to bypass or skip it. The text on the screen actually referenced being able to skip it, but I couldn't see any way to actually do that, so I had to provide a name and email to give to Acer to get in to Windows for the first time, which I wasn't crazy about.

After setup, I had about 429gb of free space on my first boot into Windows. Another thing that surprised me was that there wasn't an overwhelming amount of extra stuff installed. The extra stuff that I noticed was:
    - Dropbox Promotion
    - Firefox with Amazon Assistant Plugin (also noticed Firefox had a "Allow firefox to install and run studies" option turned on)
    - Facebook Messenger
    - ExpressVPN
    - Norton Security Ultra
    - PhotoDirector
    - PowerDirector
    - Alexa
    - "Planet9 Link"
Some may find those items beneficial, I tend to prefer a clean slate and put on the things that I choose. There's also a couple of items like "PredatorSense" which launches from a dedicated button on the keyboard - it's Acer's software to control RGB lighting, fans, monitor temperatures, etc, and I find it useful.

I've been very pleased with this as far as performance goes. It's very snappy. Gaming performance has been fantastic. The RTX 3060 graphics is great. I've been playing several modern games at ultra settings, and they seem to play quite well. I'm honestly pretty surprised... and liking this a lot more than I thought I would. I've got a top of the line desktop in the other room, but I just find it super comfortable to lay on the couch and play on a laptop with a gamepad. While playing graphics intensive games the fans haven't gotten too loud, unless I press the "turbo" button on the laptop to ramp them up all the way.

I also quite like the low profile keys on the keyboard, and the backlight/rgb lights for them. You can adjust the brightness, and set 4 lighting zones in the included PredatorSense app.

If I have anything critical to say, I guess the speakers don't get that loud. It's fine if that's the only noise in the room, but if you've got a loud A/C or fans or refrigerator or other ambient noise, it may not get loud enough with the built in speakers. Aside from that, I really haven't got anything bad to say at all.

So in summary, the following things impressed me:
    - The above average unboxing experience
    - Comes with a halfway decent neoprene zippered sleeve
    - All metal casing
    - Size/weight - not as bulky as expected, fairly slim and light given what it is
    - Not an overwhelming amount of extra stuff installed
    - Fantastic gaming performance, graphics at ultra settings
    - Fans aren't that loud unless you turn on Turbo mode
    - Fantastic keyboard with backlit keys, customizable lighting via the PredatorSense app

I feel like this bats above its price range and impressed me in several ways, so I am very happy to give a 5 star rating, and will be a repeat customer from Acer in the future based on my experience with this comparing to a Dell gaming laptop that I have had in the past.

The Acer Predator Helios 300 is essentially a portable PS5 that looks nice and sleek. I’m rocking the RTX 3060 paired with Intel Core i7 11-800H. The SSD is blazing fast, powering on and shutting off the device in mere seconds, and paired with 16 gigs of ram makes tasks open quick and multitasking a breeze. There’s a dedicated key for their software which allows you to customize and see everything without needing extra software like preset OverClock stages to choose from, speeds, temps, turbo mode to cool the PC down, keyboard lighting, even boot up logos you can download from the internet and select! The build quality is great on this device, featuring aluminum and plastic, the device feels sturdy. The device comes with a 512 gig ssd but has 2 SSD and 1 HDD expandable slots for use in the case you use it all up! That feature is pretty much unheard of on most high end laptops. Let’s talk gaming though. This PC is a monster to say the least. It’ll play all Modern titles maxed out with stable frame rates over 60-90 without DLSS. Modern Warfare 2019 ram at an average of 90-110fps without DLSS and 115-140 with DLSS on max settings. That’s better performance than a PS5… in a laptop that doesn’t cost too much! I then hopped over to Battlefield 4 where I got a steady 200fps on 1080pUltra with the only dip in fps being multiple explosions going on at once and it wouldn’t dip to more than 160fps which means it would be unnoticeable since the display runs at 144hz. Even Cyberpunk runs at a stable 60fps with DLSS maxed out! The display is nice and smooth. Colors are accurate and with some tuning, can look great! You’ll have absolutely no issues with this laptop, for $1300, this is a steal in my eyes, especially with how the PC market is right now, prebuilt laptops are the way to go at the moment, and the Acer Predator Helios 300 will not disappoint you. I’ll include some gameplay of MW showing how smooth it is!

You need a decent rig to game on, I mean go to college/work. You also can’t break the bank any more than the family has done so far.

A top level gaming rig with an RTX 3060 at this price point? The story practically sells itself to your parents/spouse/internal budget voice.

The Acer Predator Helios 300 comes in a couple of configs but this so called entry level config is nothing to sneeze at!
An i7-11800H 8 core hyper threading heart and 144hz 3ms IPS panel. You can add more ram and storage later if even needed!
The ports were blazing fast, I copied a 10gb file with my USB 3.1 stick (to the USB 3.2 port) and had the win meter sustain 380 MB/s!! 25 seconds on the timer.
Fast boot time with impressive Predator lighted metallic logo.

475GB, out of box 46gb used space (no clean up done yet).
    Win 10 Home: 20H2, 64bit.
Wifi shows as “Killer ® Wi-Fi 6 X1650i 160Mhz” adapter and connected to my Ubiquiti Alien Mesh Wifi 6 channel with link speed of 1201 Mbps!
The disk reads as NVMe Samsung MZVL2512HCJQ-00B07.
And of course we have Intel UHD Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU!
    PassMark bench: 4091.1
    3DMark (Time Spy) score: 7146

I had no issues pushing games to my Sammy ultra wide 5120x1440 reso monitor via the HDMI 2.1 port. You can hook up also via mini-display port or extra devices via the fast USB-C/Thunderbolt 4 port.

    In the box:
    -Rock star laptop
    -Heavy brick power supply
-Laptop sleeve (entry level but was a nice surprise)
    -HDD Upgrade cable and screws
    -Sticker set
-Predator Premium Service card, quick manual and other warranty papers.

The OS wasn’t loaded down with a bunch of junk. You do get PredatorSense which is your headquarters for managing status turbo modes, gaming profiles etc. Navigating it is clean and effective:
    -CPU/GPU/System temps
    -Lighting controls
    -CPU/Fan modes
-Historical graphs of performance and teams, stuff like that.

The case is impressive and cool metal design, somewhat resistant to my fingerprints but the touch pad grabbed all my oils, I found myself polishing that more than the lid. Course you’ll be hooking up a high DPI mouse to um, run those engineering programs.
And the keyboard, what a surprise. Full keyboard with num pad with clear definition between keys and a raised feel over competitors.
It has the old classic turbo button which cranks up all the fans, quite loud but I recommend setting turbo when in the app mgmt section in PredatorSense.

I’m not going back to school but if you need a window rig that can handle all tasks photo, design, gaming… check it out.

So I compared this one to the performance of a Lenovo Legion 5 that sported an AMD Ryzen 5800H CPU/3050Ti GPU. The Ryzen scored better in Cinebench but the Helios scored better in Heaven due to the 3060. The fan's didn't ramp up to bad in both Cinebench and Heaven but the CPU did throttle peaking at 94c. Cinebench score was 12594, Heaven, it scored a 5034 with 406 FPS max. I then ran the same tests using the turbo mode and extreme profile to see what difference it made. The CPU ran much cooler and scored better in Cinebench with a 12824, GPU stayed cooler as well, but performance for whatever reason, slipped. In Heaven I recorded a score of 4264 with 365FPS max. Thought those numbers to be a bit odd, you would think using the extreme mode it would be pulling better numbers on the GPU. I loved the keyboard on this, much more customizable then the Legion 5 was, another thing you can customize in software is the boot logo. The laptop also makes this kind of cool musical tone when you first boot it up which I've never seen before. Gonna have to find out how that is done and try doing it myself. The IPS screen looks absolutely amazing on this. Power supply is a 230 watt unit and this also comes with a carrying case of sorts that you can put it into. Like I said I compared this to my Lenovo Legion, which is priced about $200 less. All in all, it was very hard to say which is the better machine. There are pluses and minuses to be found in each one, but I think you are getting your money's worth either way.

Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-54-760S: $1299.99 at the time of review

(This ended up being a pretty long review. If you just want the highlights, hop down to the bottom for a summary)

I used to be a PC gamer. Sure I had a console for the exclusives, but my PC was my gaming home. Somewhere along the line though that flipped. I got tired of upgrading and tweaking my PCs performance so I went to mostly console gaming. Well, I’ve decided to make my return to PC gaming with the help of this Predator laptop from Acer. Read on to find out why I'm a big fan of this laptop at this price.

The packaging for the Predator is a nice surprise. It is truly a premium experience that I wouldn’t necessarily expect in a laptop at this price range. The entire package is shipped in a separate plain cardboard box to protect it during transit (which it did). The retail box on the other hand is a black box with Predator branding on it. Once you crack that open you’re greeted with a small sealed hard cardboard box with a holographic logo that contains the laptop in a black cloth sleeve. Word of warning though: I got a pretty aggressive static shock when I pulled the laptop out of the sleeve. It doesn’t seem to have affected the laptop at all thankfully. The package also contains a folded paper sleeve with the important documents in it including a nice thick cardstock welcome card emblazoned with blue foil letters. Overall, it really felt premium. And as a nice added bonus, it comes with a softshell zip-up neoprene case.

The laptop itself is a little on the bigger side (but in the 15” size range, this is to be expected). The casing is a mixture of machined aluminum (with a black powder coating) on the lid and keyboard deck and plastic casing on the screen, bottom body, and hinge assembly. I assume that the mixed media is a cost-saving measure and considering the performance (which I’ll get to in a bit) versus the price, I’m A-OK with that decision. Overall it has a clean look with some chamfered edges on the aluminum exposing the silver color underneath in a kind of outlining effect. It looks cool. There are some angles on the lid/body that I’m not a huge fan of, but I get wanting to add distinctiveness to the laptop so I won’t hold design aesthetics against it.

The input options are decent and inline with other laptops of this price range. The left-hand side gives you a physical LAN port (Gigabit only, but that’s to be expected at this price) and two USB-A (3.2) ports. The right-hand side sports a mini displayport (an interesting choice in this day and age), full-sized HDMI, one USB-A (3.2), and one USB4 type C (Thunderbolt) port. The power adapter port is on the back. Honestly, I’d rather have had two USB4 ports on one side and two USB-A on the other. But I’m just happy to have Thunderbolt at all. It is worth noting though that you can’t power the laptop through the USB4 port as you can with other laptops. Its power demand is too high (at up to 205w) and requires the beefier power adapter it came with.

Before I really dig into the general functionality of Predator, I want to talk about the PredatorSense app that Acer includes (it even has its own dedicated button on the keyboard). It’s going to be the command center for general controls of the ‘gamer-centric’ features. You can use it to tweak everything from the fan speed to the keyboard backlight color and pulse modes. It’s a pretty convenient feature and thankfully the button on the keyboard is located far away from typical gaming keys so you shouldn’t accidentally activate it too often.

Speaking of keys, the backlit keyboard supports a full range of RGB with 4 zones of light control. There are a number of dynamic modes to determine how the zones light up and in what order. It also has the ability to select from a predetermined range of colors *or* a point-and-choose/hex color tool so you get a pretty huge customization range in that regard. The keyboard deck has a good amount of stability and not too much give. Combined with a decent amount of key travel, it produces a pleasant typing experience (apart from the fact that I’m so used to a natural keyboard now).

The touch pad is… passable. I’ve been using a Mac at home for years now and the touchpad on that is second-to-none. It’s a little jarring going from that to the Predator’s ultra-sensitive clicks. I have accidentally clicked a left or right click more times in three days on this than in the last 10 years on my MacBook Pro. That said, you’re almost certainly not gaming with the trackpad. And in general use (word processing, surfing the web, etc.) it works just fine.

The screen is a gorgeous 1920x1080 144hz beast with a 3ms response time. In my benchmark and gaming tests (coming up) I found it to be a fantastic companion to the GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card. The only complaint I have is that there is a fair bit of light bleed in the upper corners. If you are frequently in a dark room, this could be noticeable.

The sound of the Predator is serviceable. There isn’t really any bass to speak of and the highs are a little tinny. The real concern when it comes to sound is the laptop fan noise. If you enable turbo mode (see below) or have an extended gaming session, the fan can really kick on. You can still hear the audio ok at the top volume, but the people around you might not like you for the noise you’re making. Honestly if you’re serious about gaming, you’re going to want to get a 7.1 surround headset, making the audio a moot point.

The Predator is equipped with an 11th gen Intel i7 11800H processor (at the laptop TDP ceiling of 45w). While they’ve been lagging behind AMD in performance for a couple of years now, they hope to change things with their 11 gen platform. I’m not going to push hard number results here as this isn’t a technical review. That said, in my benchmarks, I found the i7 to be excellent. It performed in the 78th percentile, which is realy great for a mid-tier laptop (especially considering that it was up against desktop class processors in that comparison).

One of the things that has kept me from committing to a gaming laptop was the availability of a good graphics card in this price range. When I saw that this laptop had the GeForce RTX 3060, I had to jump on it. I’ve read only good things about the 3000 series from Nvidia and I was not disappointed. While I have some tweaking to do on the graphics driver side of things, I found its performance to be generally outstanding.

The storage and memory on this laptop are great baselines for a gaming machine. It has a 512GB Samsung SSD. The throughput was more than suitable for gaming at high speeds, though you may outgrow the size pretty quickly (512Gb is on the small size these days, but to be expected at this price point). The memory included is 16Gb of DDR4. That’s a pretty average number and while I’d like to see 32Gb, it’s not necessary.

The battery life is about what I would expect from a laptop of this class. That is to say, it’s ok, but not great. While performing general tasks like web browsing and watching Netflix, I can get anywhere from 4.5-6 hours depending on brightness and background tasks. While game, it’s much worse. I averaged about 1h15m before it went into hibernation mode. However, I fully expect this while gaming, as it’s very demanding.

The last thing I’ll discuss is the turbo button (ah, how I like to reminisce about those beige boxes of the 90s with their turbo buttons). It’s a physical button on the Predator that when clicked, turns the fans on to full speed (they are quite loud) and slightly overclocks the Intel and Nvidia processors for slightly higher performance (I got about a 6-8% boost). It’s a neat feature, just be prepared to get some noise cancelling headphones, as the fans do make quite a bit of noise.

    ------------

*The Good*: Powerful processor. Top-tier graphics performance. Premium feel. Custom tweaking app. Free case.

*The Bad*: Fans can be loud. Default settings must be tweaked (performance is below average without doing so). Sound isn’t great. Trackpad is so-so. Relatively small hard drive (SSD) size.

*The Bottom Line:* At $1299 I think this is a pretty great laptop for gaming. You’re going to make some trade offs in this price range, but they aren’t even close to deal breakers. Just know that you’re going to want a good gaming mouse and a 7.1 headset for the best experience. Five stars out of five for great power at a great price. I would definitely order this again.

Acer has really hit it out of the park with their Helios 300 gaming laptop line, in terms of offering high end gaming laptop specs at a reasonable price. This laptop offers both a high end laptop NVIDIA graphics card (RTX 3060) and a fairly high end 11th generation Intel processor (I7-11800H). They include a 144Hz refresh rate FHD display. They throw in a fast 512Gb NVMe boot drive, a Killer/Intel Ax1650i Ethernet/WiFi system, and a generous array of laptop ports. All at a price that's considerably cheaper than competitors are asking laptops with comparable specs.

If you're looking for specs at the best price, this has what you're looking for. Add to that good quality build, a very efficient fan/vent system, and decent aesthetics, and you may think about ending your search now. Because you won't find a comparable quality system with comparable specs for less.

But there are some downsides. Battery life is pretty poor. You'll get maybe 3.5-4 hours if you put the laptop in Default mode, turn down the brightness, and focus on tasks that don't require the NVIDIA GPU. So, for example, simple video streaming or web surfing. 3.5 hours is not enough for a long plane trip, nor for a take-along laptop for a whole day's classes. And things get a lot worse if you put it into gaming mode (e.g. Turbo). Compared to 10+ hours available with today's road warrior laptops, you can see what you're getting into here. This isn't a gaming laptop that doubles as a do-everything portable. If you need portable and good battery life (and lighter weight--this weighs 5 1/2 pounds), consider something else. This is fine for a trip to the coffee shop for an hour or two.

But if you're a gamer first, you may well be willing to make that trade off.

Beyond the weak battery life, the other significant negative about this laptop is the keyboard. For reasons I don't fathom on a gaming laptop, Acer has chosen to shrink the keyboard on the left side to make room for a dedicated keypad. As a result, I find typing cramped, and find myself frequently hitting the wrong key. The chicklet style keys are also not the most comfortable I've used on a laptop. If you're using this at home, you'll almost certainly want to move to an external keyboard. Which is kind of a shame since the backlit keyboard, with the colored LEDS, IS quite pretty for a laptop keyboard.

Two other so-so components are the Webcam--which only supports HD (1280x720) and isn't all that great, and the built-in speakers. The speakers get the job done, but don't get that loud and are fairly lacking in bottom end. I've heard better laptop speakers, for sure.

Balancing out the weaknesses in battery and keyboard is plenty of easy expandability and upgradability. There are THREE (!!!) mass storage connections in the laptop: Two NVMe connections (one holding the boot drive from the factory), and a place for a third, 2.5" drive. There are two memory slots, one of which holds the 16Gb memory stick for the base configuration. A maximum of 32Gb are supported, if you add a second 16Gb stick. The WiFi card is also easily accessed once the back cover is off, if you decide you want to upgrade the WiFi capabilities in the future. Removing the back cover is straightforward: Remove 11 screws on the bottom, then carefully pry the cover off (there are a few clips around the edges that will release with a careful pull).

Unlike many recent laptops, Acer is pretty generous here with connection ports. You get:

    1x Thunderbolt 4 port (USB-C)
    1x USB (Type A) 3.2 gen 2 (10 Mb/s)
    2x USB (Type A) 3.2 gen 1 (5Mb/s)
    1x HDMI
    1x Mini-Displayport
    1 x Gigabit Ethernet port
    1/8" headphone jack

The inclusion of both the latest-and-greatest Thunderbolt 4 port (capable of both 40 Mb/s speeds and supporting up to 2 x 4K/60Hz or 1x 8K/60Hz monitor) is a plus. It's also nice there are three type-A USB ports, all of which are USB 3, and one of which is the faster USB 3.2 gen type. Providing support for both Mini-DisplayPort AND HDMI is icing on the cake.

Power is supplied via a barrel-type power port on the back of the laptop. The power supply is rated for up to 200W. There's no indication that the laptop can be charged through the Thunderbolt port, and there are few generic charger options for 200W in any event.

Value added software included with the laptop includes a copy of the excellent video editing program Cyberlink Powerdirector, the the DTS sound processing application for speakers attached through the 1/8" mini-jack. There's also a control program for the Killer/Intex Ax1650i card.

I ran the popular 3D Mark benchmarking program on the laptop in three modes: Balanced, Extreme, and Turbo. These three modes can be toggled through the Acer/Predator app that comes pre-installed. Turbo mode can also be toggle on/off via a dedicated button the keyboard. Results for the benchmark game Time Spy are (see photos):

Balanced: Graphics Score: 7057, CPU Score: 6403
Extreme: Graphics Score: 7568, CPU Score 7616
Turbo: Graphics Score 7884, CPU Score 7684

The various modes appear to be doing what they should, with the scores improving as you ladder up in overclocking. Given the nominal improvement for Extreme-> Turbo, which also turns on the loud fans permanently, I am not sure that's a power option most people will choose.

    Summarizing

    Pros
High end discrete graphics card (NVIDIA RTX 3060)
    Good cpu (Intel I7-11800H @ 2.30Ghz, 8 cores, 16 thread)
Very generous port assortment, including Thunderbolt 4
    144Hz 3ms refresh rate FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS screen, no touch
Fast NVMe 512Gb boot drive (Samsung MZVL2512HCJQ-0080)
Expansion for TWO additional storage devices (1xNVME, 1x 2.5" drive)
    Expansion for additional memory stick
Back cover relatively easy to remove to access components
Comes with Cyberlink Powerdirector and DTS software
Offers multiple pre-tuned options for speed/overclock/fan noise
Very pretty backlit keyboard with multi-color LEDs

    Cons
Only fair battery life (< 4 hours in nominal use mode, closer to 2 hours in Turbo game mode)
Keyboard squeezed to make way for number pad and a bit uncomfortable/clumsy to use long term
Under stress, fans are very loud
    Weak built-in speakers
    Mediocre built-in webcam
Only comes with 16Gb of memory, 32Gb would have been preferred
512Gb of storage is fine for productivity apps, but gamers will almost certainly require more for games

Despite the cons, I think this is a lot of laptop for the price, and as long as you can live with the practical need to be on a power source if you're going to do any serious gaming with it, this is probably going to be the most attractive gaming laptop for a lot of people at its price point.

My son has a nice decent gaming rig, He always wants to play games with me, but I dont use a PC so we cant play anything together. I got this and not only is it fast, it runs games better than his full sized pc can. screen is nice, graphics crips and gets really good framerates in the games we play. I personally do not try to ultra out anything graphics wise and always opt for best quality to performance ratio. This has worked amazingly so far. Battery life is decent for a laptop.

Turbo mode makes the fans go pretty loud. During heavy use fans can also get pretty loud. Not much you can do, but what do expect from a powerhouse that is packaged in a small case.

RTX3060 graphics make games look amazing. really love this thing. Love the Keyboard and this thing is a beast.

Great system, and perfect for being able to game anywhere.

My wife and I both teach and have 11-year-old twins. Together, we have used four Acer laptops, an entry-level Nitron that has been going strong for 4 years; a top-of-the-line Triton 300 with 32gb of RAM and an RTX2080, which has given me outstanding performance for almost 3 years; and a 14-inch Acer Swift 3, in the home for a few months. All perform admirably for school and teaching, including Zoom meetings.

Now I am reviewing a mid-level Acer gaming laptop, the Predator Helios 300, with an Intel Core i7-11800H, 16gb of RAM, 512 SSD, and an Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU.

It arrives smartly packaged with a black sleeve for portable use. The first thing I noticed is that the chassis is built like a tank. I squeezed it with my thumbs and it felt solid. The membrane keys are typical spongy laptop keys on keyboards. I prefer mechanical keyboards with clickety clack blue or, in the case of Razer, green keys. You’ve got two USB ports on the left and one on the right if you want to hook up a mechanical keyboard. You also get an HDMI on the right if you want to hook up to the monitor. The power port is on the back in the center, a very logical choice, which I like.

Set up was a breeze, took about 20 minutes, as I logged in with my credentials, and used Google Chrome, downloaded Spotify, and checked my settings for volume and mic.

As you would expect, the Acer boots up quickly and gives you a racing sound. Also for a gamer laptop, you’re getting an aggressive grill in the back of the monitor, which conjures images of a race car grill.

I turned on Netflix and watched a documentary on mushrooms and the images were excellent. The sound, even at full blast, was only mid-range, and when I opened Spotify and listened to some electronic pop (“At the River” by Groove Armada), I couldn’t get any loud sound, so if you’re looking for an immersive gaming experience, you’ll need to buy some external speakers. However, the sound is not cheap and tinny. For whatever reason, Acer didn’t tune these speakers for loud sound.

Internet surfing, Netflix watching, and software downloads did not activate the fans. So far it has been quiet.
You're getting 352 nits of screen brightness, which is good at this price point.

Overall, this laptop is a joy to use. It handles Zoom meetings easily. While I’m not a gamer, I prefer gaming laptops for my Zoom instruction because gaming GPUs can handle all the Zoom updates. As my engineer friend explained to me, hosting a Zoom meeting is similar to gaming in terms of technical demands.

If you’re looking for a tank of a gaming laptop with an RTX 3060, bright screen, and don’t mind using external speakers when you want to crank up your volume, I can give the Predator Helios 300 a strong recommendation.

Screen has a lot of bleed at the corners. After about 6 months many of my games began to over heat the cpu after an hour and a hslf of play. I cannot even play Alpha Protocol on high game setting. GPU seems cool and the air coming out is cool, but whete vpu is at there is no air flow. Otherwise its an alright computer..
